Paragachi, Ecuador
December 2011 we embarked on a trip to the northern mountains of Ecuador with 35 quilts in tow. We met with the president of the village and he navigated the families that would most benefit from these donations.
For 5 hours we walked through hills visiting each family individually and providing them with a wonderful gift for Christmas "Feliz Navidad" - the president of the village, Luis declared himself papa Noel as we approached the homes. It was wonderful and the families were full of cheer and smiles, many of whom were the children that run the household when the parents are working in near by villages / towns.
It was an honor to meet the people of Paragachi and spend so much time there, even after the deliveries were done....I was able to enjoy papaya with Sonya's family and her mother made me a love knit hat. Thank you to all our donors, everyone was very thankful for your quilts. We appreciate your time and encouragement to continue with Threading Hope for many years. We look forward to 2012 with open eyes and hearts! Thank you to Jana of Entre las Estrellas for sharing your work and passion with us. We worked with Entre las Estrellas (Among the Stars) located in the Chota valley north of Quito, a dusty small town where poverty is very high. Threading Hope brought quilts and Highwire provided art kits and lessons to 71 children of the village - ages 6 to 12yrs old.
